Focus
Scribing
requires focus. Try to immerse yourself in what's going on around
you in the Radiant
Room. Try to tune out your growling stomach, the fact that you
didn't get enough sleep last night, worries from home, your performance
anxiety, and pay attention. It can almost be meditative.
Repetition
Participants
often repeat the same key phrases during Report
Outs and synthesis. This isn't because they're unoriginal but
because similar themes often come out during discussions. If it
appears that ideas, themes, or words are being repeated, try to
find some way to emphasize them using color, size of letters, framing,
arrows, or the gestures of Bean People.
Speedy Writing
Speedy writing
takes practice. Don't be discouraged if at first you can't keep
up with the dialogue or if your writing is messy. Try to keep one
ear tuned for keywords as you continue to record what's just been
said. If the situation allows it, ask the facilitator or audience
to repeat something.
Practice
Practice scribing in
a notebook during meetings, while attending church, watching TV,
or listening to the radio. If you often both participate in and
krew events, practice scribing into a notebook while you're seated
in the audience.
