The
documenter's role is synthesis--to discern and present, in words,
graphics and other media, the ideas that make a difference to the
client. Documentation gives form to ideas. It increases the client's
capacity to focus on the work at hand, to be creative, and to work
at a greater depth and complexity.
Documentations
are designed to meet both the immediate needs of the client (e.g.,
project implementation), and long term needs which may not be apparent
until months or years later (e.g., a foundation for the next cycle
of design). Documentation is essential if ideas are to be managed,
building the organization's Body of Knowledge
The
journal documentation is a resource document that can be "mined"
to produce many useful information products.
