music: check list

cd selection

  • be familiar with NavCenter CD collection
  • bring along your own CDs to add variety to your choices
  • consider the event theme and desired outcomes that may be reinforced by the music
  • choose music appropriate for each module and transitions between modules
  • refer to music logs from previous events for suggestions

music cues

  • connect with pf and make note of music cues
  • be aware that some modules, like Report Outs, call for no music
  • reconnect with the pf throughout the event for module timing shifts or strawdog changes
  • connect with front of the room facilitator (especially if you're not familiar with this facilitator's style of facilitation) to receive any specific instructions on timing of music cues
  • avoid 'dead air'

music log

  • keep a log of all music played during the event
  • this includes music selected by the music facilitator as well as music requested by the participants.
  • use the music log template to record your selections

listening & responding

  • alter selections in response to emerging themes, statements made by participants and facilitators or participants requests (if appropriate)
  • assist participants in selecting/obtaining special music for report outs or presentations
  • give ideas for additions to the NavCenter music collection to the NavCenter staff
