The
documentor's role is synthesis--to discern and present the participants's
work in such a way that accurately represents the ideas that emerged
during the event. The documentors text, along with the participant's
hypertiles gives form to ideas as they are presented. The participant's
are released from 'taking notes' and it increases their capacity
to focus on the work at hand, to be creative, and to work at a greater
depth and complexity.
The
journal documentation is a resource document that can be "mined"
to produce useful information. The documentor's synthesis of the
participant's dialogues is designed to meet both the immediate needs
of the client (e.g., project implementation), and long term needs
which may not be apparent until months or years later (e.g., a foundation
for the next cycle of design). Documentation is essential if ideas
are to be managed, building the organization's Body of Knowledge.
