Hundreds Enjoy & Learn at
Discovery Days

A glimpse of the $77 million Borgess Medical Center construction project was viewed by hundreds of BMC employees, physicians, volunteers and others a Discovery Days on August 28 and 29 at the Navigation Center.

"We wanted to share many details that can help bring a project of this size to life," said Linda Albery, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Borgess Medical Center. "Comprehensive drawings of the various units seemed to capture everyone's interest as did an amazing digital video that shows what the outside of the completed building will look like and then takes viewers inside the new atrium entrance."

"Personal interaction with the leaders of this project was the most informative aspect of Discovery Days," Albery said. "It was an opportunity to ask questions of the architects, building experts, the interior designer, and zone leaders of the new units."

"Discovery Days interaction is a continuation of the input we have sought since the inception of this project", Albery said. "The building program is based on comments from employees, doctors, our Board of Trustees, patient focus groups and design experts, We couldn't complete such a giant, unique project without this feedback."

Borgess Locksmith Greg Gilmore, looked at the schematics of the 130,000 square foot outpatient services addition with an eye on what new tasks may be in his future. "I learned more about the scope of the project by seeing drawings that show the size and shape of every room to be built in the plan," Gilmore said. "This helps me chart out all the steps I need to take before I'm asked to begin actual installation of hundreds of new door locks."

Discovery Days included displays of site planning, architecture, interior design, information technology, the Borgess Heart Institute, Outpatient Surgery, Service Excellence and Imaging and Diagnostics.

I was glad that I came," said Chinetha Bell, of Health Information Services. "Before I experienced Discovery Days, I didn't realize the full extent of this new building project."

Discovery Days included the presentation of various displays through the
arrangement of an indoor "mall" within the Navigation Center.
