At
the start of a project, especially if members of the team are unfamiliar
with the NavCenter, the group may participate in a DiscoverySession
facilitated by the NavCenter staff, in which members can learn about
the NavCenter and the resources available to them. In many cases
the team will then begin their project work and utilizing the NavCenter
resources. For some larger projects however the next step may be
a DesignSession, an event involving the team members and other collaborators
who together develop the project's design and implementation. During
a DesignSession, participants work as individuals, in small groups,
or as a whole in a variety of facilitated activities.
DiscoverySession
The NavCenter staff will work with the project sponsors and leader
to develop a four (4) to eight (8) hour event during which the team
members will learn about the NavCenter and how the NavCenter processes
and resources can be used for their project work. Through the DiscoverySession,
the team gets a brief experience of what it's like to work in the
NavCenter environment and in a DesignSession process.
DesignSession
The DesignSession is a one (1) to three (3) day event that brings
together the project sponsors, project team members and other collaborators.
During this event participants will work through various exercises
and use models to achieve the desired outcome of the event. Depending
on what stage the project is in, the outcome may be a definition
of the scope of the project and who will be involved, a project
plan that will be translated into a work schedule at future sessions
or a detailed work schedule with individual work tasks assigned
at the end of the event. The project leader may assume the role
